How to Recover When You Drop Below 12 Active Testers

· 4 min read

It's day 11. You just noticed one tester uninstalled. You're at 11 active. What happens to the clock?

What Google's counter does

The moment you dropped below 12, the “14 consecutive days with 12+ active” condition broke. The clock didn't reset to zero — it broke the streak. When you re-add a 12th active tester, a new 14-day streak begins from that moment.

The recovery playbook

  1. Recruit 2–3 new testers immediately. Don't aim for 12 — aim for 15.
  2. Brief them on the opt-in URL. Confirm install + open within 24 hours.
  3. Check the tester report the next day. Confirm you're at 12+ active.
  4. Restart your day counter from this moment.

Why buffer matters

If you had recruited 15 from day 0, you'd be at 14 active right now — no problem. Buffer is the cheapest insurance against the day-11 panic.
